Matsushiro / Wakaho
The Former Yokota Residence with tasteful thatched roof is a national important cultural asset. It consist of the manor, the front gate, the retirement house and two storehouses, indicating the lifestyle of a middle-class feudal retainer who served as a district magistrate for Matsushiro Domain. It is also the birthplace of Ei Wada (maiden name Yokota), the author of “Tomioka Nikki (literally, ‘Tomioka Diary’)”, which is a documentation of life in Tomioka Silk Mill.
