Ashinoshiri Dosojin Festival

As it is also called the "Deity Mask Decoration Dosojin Festival", the Dosojin Festival of Ashinoshiri comprises of decorating a stone monument of Dosojin (travelers' guardian deity) which is about 1.5m in size with a deity mask made using the straw festoons collected from all households in the region. Through the ceremony the monument becomes a guardian deity which will protect the region from evil spirits and diseases for a year, until January 7th of the following year.
